Dear Editor,
For over 20 years, Canadians, including Prince George residents have united with communities across the country to support the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life and provide hope to all those affected by cancer.
The last two years have been especially difficult for those in our community affected by cancer. Nearly 2 in 5 Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and they need our support now more than ever.
With January fast approaching, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is urgently seeking for volunteers to execute the 2022 Relay For Life in Prince George. CCS is hoping to return to in-person events next year and bring back our beloved Prince George Relay For Life on June 11, but this won’t be possible without a team of dedicated volunteers.
“Cancer hasn’t taken a break during the ongoing global health pandemic and neither have we,” says Rachael Zapp, Signature Programs Manager at the Canadian Cancer Society. “We are in desperate need of volunteers for next year’s Relay For Life campaign. Unfortunately, we have been experiencing challenges with volunteer recruitment efforts and we haven’t had much uptake in Prince George. At this point, we’re at the risk of not moving forward if we’re unable to secure enough volunteers.”
The Canadian Cancer Society is currently looking for volunteers to help them deliver an extraordinary experience for event participants in 2022. The organization is recruiting a variety of positions ranging from leadership and event logistics to community outreach and communications. A full list of vacant volunteer roles is available online here. Interested volunteers can also contact relay@cancer.ca for more information.
Volunteering for Relay For Life is more than just a task or experience – it has a real impact. It is a meaningful way to give back to our local community while improving the quality of life of people affected by all cancers.
Funds raised through Relay For Life are invested into groundbreaking cancer research, advocacy efforts, as well as critical support programs and services like the Kordyban Lodge here in Prince George.
Join us and volunteer at relayforlife.ca.
Best regards,
Rachael Zapp
