First Nations frustrated with duration of Joffre Lakes Park closure

A person sits on a rock looking out at a turquoise lake. They have shoulder-length brown hair and wear a yellow jacket and brown backpack. Other people scattered along the rocks, look out at the lake.

The Lil’wat Nation and N’Quatqua requested a longer closure period of Joffre Lakes Park, but B.C. Parks says it felt unable to accommodate their request while supporting continued public use. The political chief of Lil’wat Nation says the decision disregards the nation’s needs.
