Established in 2005, the Prince George Community Radio Society was formed by a dedicated coalition of local media advocates, volunteers, and community builders with a shared vision: to bring a truly independent, grassroots voice to the airwaves of central British Columbia.
Born out of the desire to expand cultural expression, local news, and diverse musical programming beyond mainstream commercial broadcasting, the Society laid the organizational and regulatory groundwork required to establish a community-owned radio station. This foundational effort culminated in the launch of 93.1 CFIS-FM, creating a vital public platform dedicated to serving Prince George and surrounding communities with local talk shows, cultural segments, and a rich celebration of classic music.
Over the years, the Society has grown into an enduring cornerstone of local media, championing volunteer-driven broadcasting, free community announcements for non-profits, and a unique auditory space that reflects the spirit of the region.
